When truckers lose their livelihoods to automation…

People have to step forward.
Communities have to come together.
We all share a responsibility to look out for the people who serve and protect us in their everyday lives.

Someone should do all of these things.
And that “someone” is all of us — together.

True Crime 

When an 84‑year‑old grandmother, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her home in the middle of the night, amongst many others, three independent YouTubers stepped in to help search for her. They often appeared for over 8 hours a day, every day.

They were not criminals and they were not interfering. They were simply trying to find a missing woman. 

Yet they were arrested — not for harming anyone or obstructing justice. The sheriff issued misdemeanor charges that many believe were fabricated. One of the men was arrested because his toes crossed an easement line while he was livestreaming the search. While a few neighbors had grown tired of the activity, many others appreciated their efforts, and tens of thousands of viewers were glued to their screens, deeply concerned about the woman they had come to call “America’s Grandma, Nancy.”

To many observers, this looked less like law enforcement protecting the public and more like the law being weaponized against the "wrong-kind" of people.

The sheriff had been publicly criticized by these men, and many others, for not doing enough. Instead of addressing those concerns, he ordered arrests that even his own deputies reportedly and publicly disagreed with. But, deputies were told they would face disciplinary action if they refused to follow orders and arrest the men. So, the 3 were arrested. 

Situations like this are exactly why crowdsourcing exists — and why it is respected. When ordinary people step up to help — whether it’s searching for a missing grandmother, exposing abuse of power or corruption, or simply asking for accountability — they should not be punished for it. No American should have to fear retaliation from their own government for trying to do the right thing.

Crowdsourcing and crowdfunding enables people to respond calmly and with dignity, by hiring skilled constitutional attorneys to handle the situation properly. And they never have to stand alone while they stand up for all of us.

These YouTubers needed support. They needed friends. They needed a community capable of helping them defend themselves when the system turned on them. And, because of fellow YouTubers and thousands of viewers, the money was raised for all three of their legal defenses.

That is what America was designed to do. We don’t just fight for freedoms — we work together to keep them when those in power forget that we are a free country. Sometimes it takes significant resources to stand your ground. Nobody should have to do it alone.

Why This Case is Making Headlines

This case is one of many showing what true crime creators are uncovering: a pattern of less‑than‑honorable effort from certain police departments when oversight is needed most. In Nancy Guthrie’s case, the Sheriff’s Office used the appearance of the men on scene to instill fear in the public — but the actual, live, constant video coverage told a completely different story.

The viewers didn’t fear these men. They loved them. They respected them. They prayed for them — and even prayed with them.

And while the Sheriff pushed a narrative that painted these creators as dangerous because they looked more like undercover drug investigators than YouTube media, the truth revealed something else entirely. Alex, for example, was described by children as a lovable teddy bear with crayons on his face. These men showed strength and resilience as they stood their ground under pressure.

While this police department does have some very good officers who want to serve their community, they were restricted and silenced by the Sheriff himself. Deputies who disagreed with the arrests were reportedly threatened with discipline if they refused to carry them out. A city employee was even reprimanded for calling in a tip to the FBI because it would “create more work” for the Sheriff.

Meanwhile, the creators on the ground were doing what the public expected from law enforcement:

• documenting the search

• keeping the community informed

• offering support

• bringing humanity into a frightening situation

One of those creators is still praying with people today.

And that youtube creator is Ted Investigates — a traveling salesman who covers true crime as a hobby, but stepped into something bigger. When viewers said they needed God during this crisis, he responded. He now opens every morning with an hour of Bible reading because the community asked for spiritual grounding.

Ted wasn’t arrested only because he happened to be traveling for work that day. Otherwise, he would have been right there with the others — because he has been on the ground almost daily, helping, supporting, and documenting.

This case shows exactly why independent creators matter. They bring truth, humanity, and accountability where official channels fall short — and sometimes where good officers are prevented from doing the job they signed up to do.
